Clos de Peguera: Natural wines with a Catalan soul
Old vines and radical philosophy: Back to the origins
A family-run winery recovers the strength of old vines and biodynamic vineyards to craft wines free of additives. Every bottle is a manifesto against industrial intervention and a tribute to the Catalan landscape.
From recognition to rebirth: A decade of conviction
Barcelona / Editorial Office, January 7, 2026
Clos de Peguera was founded in 2013 in La Conca del Barberà with a radical proposal: to make wines that respect the natural cycle without compromise. Within two seasons, the project’s quality was proven to the industry. in 2015, their Garrut red was named the best wine in Catalonia. However, the project was put on hold due to professional circumstances. In 2021, the venture resurfaced in Les Garrigues with more conviction than ever. Today, the founders work organic and biodynamic vineyards without adding sulfites or commercial yeasts. Only grapes, time, and patience. In 2016, they expanded their range with organic oils under the brand Oliua, maintaining the same principles of local sourcing and sustainability.
Octogenarian vines and skin-contact fermentations: The Clos de Peguera method
The Macabeo wines come from eighty-year-old vines worked with traditional techniques. The harvest is manual. Fermentations are carried out using indigenous yeasts present on the grape skins. All wines undergo skin maceration to achieve depth and texture.
The “ancestrals” (sparkling wines) originate from the same tank but evolve along different paths depending on the aging time. The Grenache Noir preserves the fruit and freshness of the land without enological artifice. Some wines, such as Garxana Selecció, rest in used French oak barrels to find the balance between the liveliness of the grape and the subtlety of the wood. Production is limited. The Garxana Blanc is only bottled in magnum format, a gesture that prioritizes quality over volume.
Small-scale vignerons with a collective vision
Clos de Peguera is part of the Gremi de Vinyataires Lliures (Guild of Free Winegrowers), a collective that defends the authenticity and independence of small producers. The philosophy is clear: to make wines that tell stories without the need for enological disguises.
Each bottle is a sensory record of the land, the climate of that vintage, and the patience of the makers. There is no sophisticated marketing or grandiloquent speeches. There is soil, honest work, and time. The “orange” whites (vins brisats), the ancestrals, and the barrel-touched reds are a testament to a way of understanding viticulture: as an act of respect toward nature and trust in the grape’s ability to express itself alone. No artifice, just authenticity.
