From Cal Pallarades to the Forefront of Catalan Winemaking
Mediterranean Tradition with a Contemporary Vision
In 2020, Josep Armengol restored the 1908 family winery in Puigdelfí to create Mediterranean wines that blend century-old tradition with enological experimentation. The result: singular bottles with a distinct identity.
From Grandfather to Grandson: Restoring to Innovate
Barcelona/Editorial Office, January 9, 2026
Cal Pallarades was founded in 1908 in Puigdelfí, Tarragona. More than a century later, Josep Armengol decided to reclaim his grandfather’s legacy with a clear premise: to respect tradition without being anchored to it.
The building has been adapted to modern times while maintaining its original spirit, and the project is driven by a philosophy defined by three concepts: curiosity, innovation, and singularity. It is not about repeating established formulas, but about creating a unique wine concept that dialogues with viticultural heritage without merely imitating it.
Organoleptic Profile and Methodology
The wines of Celler Pallarades share a recognizable Mediterranean DNA: they are fresh, fruity, and possess a silky, delicate palate that reflects the sea’s influence and the region’s limestone soil.
The quality of the final product is determined in the vineyard. For this reason, harvesting is done by hand using small crates—a method that preserves the integrity of the grapes and allows for exhaustive quality control. The team, composed of Josep Armengol, winemaker Sergi, and the guidance of the founding grandfather, works meticulously to ensure each variety expresses its typicity without artifice. The result is wines with their own character, designed to be complete sensory experiences.
Artistic Labeling and Visual Identity
Beyond the liquid itself, Celler Pallarades invests in distinctive packaging. Each label incorporates artistic elements or inspiring designs that connect with the bottle’s contents and reinforce the idea of uniqueness. This is not gratuitous aesthetics, but an extension of the concept: every wine is a handcrafted piece with its own visual identity. This attention to detail reflects the project’s commitment to positioning itself as a proposal that understands wine as an integral cultural product, where tradition and the avant-garde coexist seamlessly. Celler Pallarades proves that reclaiming the past does not mean giving up on the present.
